Canada Post Strike May 2025 Update

As negotiations continue, a Canada Post strike is still possible. If it happens, mail to and from Tracument will be affected. This message outlines how we’re prepared to adjust our operations to keep things moving.

Important Notice Regarding Potential Canada Post Strike

Please note: This blog post was written in response to CUPW's strike notice, delivered in respect of May 23, 2025. Canada Post employees are not currently on strike (though overtime is affected, potentially causing delays). The provisions set out in the blog post below will take effect if and when Canada Post workers move to a full strike. Until then, our inbound and outbound mail service will continue as normal.

Note on dates:

The dates in the blog post below will be updated if a strike occurs. However, please note the following, generally:

  • Outbound mail is delivered to Canada Post the day after it is uploaded. For example, if a strike begins on a Thursday, mail uploaded on Tuesday will be the last mail handed to Canada Post (printed and compiled on the Wednesday). Mail uploaded on Wednesday will be printed and compiled on the Thursday, and will be held securely in our office.
  • Inbound mail may take up to five business days to reach us (especially with current delays). If you send mail within five days of the beginning of any strike, please be advised that it may not reach our office before the strike begins.

Sending Regular Mail Through Tracument

Mail can still be sent through our system (using Mail-from-Desktop / Requests sent by mail). We encourage you to continue to upload mail for delivery as you create it for two important reasons:

  • During the November–December strike last year, Tracument delivered approximately 40% of all mail sent through our system by private methods before the strike ended. This means that the mail you upload has a chance of being delivered while the strike remains ongoing. The more volume we receive, the more frequently we can perform this service and the more addresses we can include.
  • Canada Post has committed to deliver mail on a first-come, first-serve basis when they return from the strike. We will coordinate with Canada Post to ensure that each day's mail is processed in order and as soon as possible.

Of course, our other delivery methods remain operational during this time (Secure Send, Fax-from-Desktop, Requests sent in-network, or by Email and Fax).

Sending Registered Mail Through Tracument

  • We will continue to accept Registered Mail before and during the strike. However, it will be held at our office, and registered with Canada Post as soon as the strike is over. The last day to send Registered Mail through our system and receive a tracking number before the strike begins is Wednesday, May 21st. Please note: Registered Mail will not be delivered by the private methods we refer to above.

Sending Mail to Tracument

Payment of invoices via cheque sent to Tracument through Canada Post will be delayed. Please note that you can still send payment through any of the following methods:

  • Credit card for TRAC invoices under $200; the option will be shown on the invoice page.
  • Credit card for Tracument licenses, renewal invoices, monthly / quarterly invoices in any amount; please contact finance@tracument.com.
  • Interac E-transfer; please send payment to finance@tracument.com and make clear the invoice number you are paying in the notes; partial payments will be rejected.
  • Cheque couriered to our Collingwood accounting address office only.
  • By setting up payment via your Virtual Account or bank account in your Tracument account; please contact Tracument support for details.

Please note that invoices for licenses and training are due on receipt, and that payment must be made regardless of any postal strike to avoid service interruptions.

Full Service Requests

Please be aware that we must change our SLA for Full Service Request clients for the duration of any Canada Post strike in the following way:

  • We will attempt to send all requests, reminders, and payment by non-postal means.
  • Written reminders that can only go by mail may be substituted with a telephone reminder.
  • Timelines and deliverables related to the mail may suffer delays. We will make reasonable efforts to adjust our operations to ensure timely collection of your requested documents and records.

If you have any questions about our operations during the upcoming strike, please contact support@tracument.com or your Tracument account representative. We also invite you to sign up for our newsletter, which will feature frequent updates on our service. You can do so here: https://tracument.com/signup/.

Sincerely,

Tracument Team
